Replace damaged Estonian kroon and euro banknotes and coins
You can replace damaged or mutilated Estonian kroon and euro banknotes and coins or submit them for examination.
A damaged euro banknote is replaced if you present more than half of the note or can prove that the missing (larger) part of the banknote has been destroyed. Intentionally mutilated or damaged euro banknotes are not redeemed.
A damaged Estonian kroon banknote is replaced if you present more than half of the banknote and if the serial number is fully legible. On coins at least the denomination and time of minting must be legible.
At the Museum Shop you can submit banknotes and coins for examination if:
- the size of the note is more than 25% smaller than the original size;
- the note is fragmented and the individual fragments have been glued together for example with adhesive tape;
- the banknote is so damaged (it has dye or oil stains, it is discoloured, burnt, decomposed or defaced, etc) that its denomination and authenticity cannot be verified without laboratory tests;
- the serial number of the note is not fully legible;
- you want to replace more than five banknotes;
- the coin is damaged as a result of physical or chemical effect and its denomination, time of minting or authenticity cannot be verified without laboratory tests.
If you want to submit banknotes or coins for examination, you can fill in and print the form or fill it in at the shop. In general the examination is done within a month.
