The Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank confirmed Veiko Tali as the Deputy Governor of the central bank at its regular meeting today. Mr Tali is currently Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance and will start work at Eesti Pank at the start of 2021 for a five-year term as Deputy Governor.

Veiko Tali was proposed as a candidate for Deputy Governor by the Governor of the central bank Madis Müller, who said that he greatly valued Mr Tali's long experience in setting financial sector policy, which would allow him to assume his new role quickly and successfully. “Veiko has also shown himself to be an effective leader, and I believe that his experience will allow him to contribute successfully to the development and management of the central bank as an organisation”, said Mr Müller.

Mr Tali responded “I deeply appreciate the confidence shown by the Governor and Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank and the exciting challenge on offer. I am particularly pleased at the chance to make a further significant contribution to developing financial services. I hope that my experience and ideas will be able to enrich the management of Eesti Pank”.

Veiko Tali has been Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance since 2011. Prior to that he held various positions within the Ministry including Deputy Secretary General for Financial and Tax Policy, head of the Financial Policy Department, and head of the property reform and securities market department. Before going to the Ministry of Finance he was a researcher at the institute of economics of the Estonian Academy of Sciences. He holds a degree in economics from Moscow State University and has studied further at Roskilde University, the Joint Vienna Institute and the Harvard Kennedy School.

The Executive Board of Eesti Pank consists of a Governor and two Deputy Governors. Former Deputy Governor Madis Müller has been Governor of the central bank since 7 June 2019, and his term of office as Governor lasts for seven years. The term of office of Ülo Kaasik, the other Deputy Governor, runs until summer 2021.
